Local Entrepreneur Launches New Business

In addition to owning and operating a successful salon in Vonore called The M Salon, local entrepreneur, Misty Pina, has also successfully launched the Sweetwater Institute of Cosmetology in nearby Sweetwater.
“I’m so very grateful for the opportunity that cosmetology has offered me and what it has meant to my family,” said Misty. “The idea that I can offer this same opportunity to others hoping to launch their own careers is what motivated my decision to launch the Institute. I am confident the Institute will become a source of encouragement for others in our community and that it can play the same positive role for them as it has in my life and my family’s.”
Opening the Institute on East North Street near Sweetwater-Vonore Road brought back fond memories for Misty, as the Institute is located in the very building where she studied cosmetology that helped her launch her career.
“Launching the Institute has been a family affair,” said Misty. “I could not have succeeded without the encouragement and hard work of my husband and sons. They were instrumental in our remodeling efforts and assuring the Institute opened on time.”
The Sweetwater Institute of Cosmetology’s first class of more than 25 students began just after Labor Day. Students come from all works of life and ages.
“I am particularly encouraged by the large number of single moms who are looking to get ahead,” said Misty. “I hope to become a source of encouragement to our students who can occasionally face a variety of obstacles and challenges along their journey.”
Providing a flexible and affordable opportunity for all the Institute’s students is at the core of Sweetwater Institute of Cosmetology’s mission – a mission that has been embraced by the community, area businesses, and civic leaders.
The Institute plans on offering low cost haircuts beginning this month along with low cost salon services – including manicures, pedicures, facials, and all hair services – to the public beginning in mid November.
