You Can Take It with You…Your Organized Closet

Your closet affects you more than you realize; after all, it is where the day begins. For most, the feeling of relaxation when entering a favorite resort is the goal for home décor. Your closet is no exception. It is such an important part of your day. If it is a welcoming, organized place, it is easy to get dressed and be out the door for what lies ahead.
If clutter is the theme of your closet – along with inadequate storage – then time is wasted looking for the day’s outfit. It takes more time to coordinate the image that will impress everyone you will encounter in the coming hours when there is no order to your closet. Stress builds as the hunt is on for shoes buried under a pile of clothes, and once stress starts, you know it will only continue.
The first tip of an organized closet is to have a hamper so dirty laundry is not lying on the floor. Organize your closet so you can go shopping every day in your very own store. Have shirts, pants, skirts, suits, and shoes all in their own department and neatly arranged. Grouping is the key to organization. If your favorite ensembles are grouped together, you are limited in choices. Once you create your “store” by organizing “like with like,” it is easier to see new combinations and your wardrobe choices will increase.
When traveling, packing is easy when your closet is serene and orderly. Having luggage handy, kept in the closet, makes packing quick as you go through your own personal “store” assembling everything needed for your trip.
You will have more time on your trip by recreating your organized storage at your destination. Digging through the suitcase can be unnerving; take your closet with you and spend a few minutes unpacking upon arriving at your destination. Sort “like with like” at the hotel just as in your closet. Then you know exactly where your garments are for the day, whether you’re going to a meeting or sightseeing.
When choosing a design style, think of your favorite place, retail store, or destination when starting a remodel of your closet. Inspiration may come from a trip to the beach, the mountains, or travel overseas. You can take it with you and replicate your favorite experience. The modern style of Giorgio Armani in Beverly Hills or the classic mahogany look of Ralph Lauren at the Greenbrier are just two of countless possibilities. Wouldn’t it be pleasant to start each day in one of these locations… in your closet?
