God’s Work, Our Hands

Christmas may be over, but Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church in Tellico Village continues filling its manger with gold, frankincense, and myrrh – blankets, coats, can openers, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, towels, and more. All of it is donated to the Good Shepherd Center in Madisonville, helping those who need it most during this very cold winter.
“Serving is part of giving,” said Reverend Ingrid Schalk, Pastor of Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church. “God calls us to love and serve our neighbors. That’s what we’re about at Shepherd of the Lake – it’s who we are.”
Giving isn’t new for this congregation. With a history of service, they are involved in local, national, and international outreach. From funding wells in Ethiopia, to purchasing water purification filters for school children in Nepal, providing flood relief in Peru, building their first Habitat for Humanity house, and donating and volunteering at donation centers, they are actively giving and serving.
“We say God’s work, our hands,” said Pastor Schalk. “Whether it’s donating our time painting a house, working a cash register at the Habitat store, serving food at a shelter, or financially supporting a need, it’s about listening to where God is calling us to serve. Giving is a part of our service to God and our neighbors. A church is not the building. It is the people. At Shepherd of the Lake, we live that philosophy. Our focus is on caring for our congregation and serving the needs of the community.”
Whether you’re looking for a new church home or just want to get involved in giving to the community, Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church in Tellico Village opens its door to all. Be part of an active congregation, where everyone is welcome. The church is located at 143 Chota Center, across from the POA offices. Services are held at 9 am Sunday with Holy Communion and Wednesdays at 5 pm during Lent. Please join us. To learn more, visit www.shepherdofthelaketn.org.
