A General Merchandise, Gifts, and More Store!
The American Commissary was launched in 2013 on the belief that other American entrepreneurs like us could succeed despite the recession and global economy that has cost so many of our friends and neighbors their jobs.
Named after the only store in a coal mining camp where our family lived in the early 1900s, called the “Commissary,” we decided to add “American” to the name to represent the dream of the American spirit and the humility upon which so many of our dreams are founded. It was decided then that the American Commissary would be a general merchandise store featuring gifts and a wide variety of other merchandise as well. But not just any merchandise – we chose to sell 100% American-made products, including products produced both locally and regionally.
The American Commissary is in reality our efforts to assist in the rebirth of the American dream and our belief in the promise for the future. By providing opportunities and encouragement for American entrepreneurship, we hope to help rekindle that spirit that made the United States the greatest nation ever and the hope for so many throughout the world. By supporting the American Commissary, we can continue to provide the much needed support required to encourage the next generation of American small business owners.
However, the American Commissary is even more, as it offers American-made products and merchandise that are simply not available in most retail stores. You’ll discover quality hand-crafted jewelry, pottery, chimes, wooden toys, and art from popular regional artists. We also feature one-of-a-kind, handmade stationery, as well as popular books from Tennessee authors. You’ll find tons of things for the kitchen, including gadgets, cookware, and homemade honey, maple syrup, jam, jellies, chow chow, pickles, and relishes.
Be sure to visit our apparel area where we feature tunic tops, ladies’ accessories, and soft alpaca gloves and socks, in addition to hand-crafted soaps and cosmetics.
This article has only a very brief description of the many quality American-made products we offer at the American Commissary. And while our store may be small in size, it offers a surprising number of high-quality products.
