New Visitor’s Center Opening in Athens

The Athens Area Tourism Department, in association with Athens Chamber of Commerce, is proud to announce plans to open a Visitor’s Center in cooperation with Tennessee Log Homes at the site of their Model Home located at 2537 Decatur Pike. With over thirty thousand cars traveling Interstate 75 daily and passing by the Athens area it is our intent to place appropriate signage along I-75 announcing a Visitor’s Center and welcoming them to the “Friendly City.”
The Visitor’s Center will assist travelers to our area with information regarding the many activities available in McMinn County and also a detailed map of the area to help navigate from site to site. Suggestions to our visitors from our helpful staff will be offered to them relating to local retailers in the area. In addition to promoting our “Friendly City,” plans in the future are to sell a small variety of paraphernalia related to tourism as well. We will also have incentive coupons from local retail establishments for our visitors.
I’ve been asked what the number one attraction of the Athens area is. My answer is simply, “what are you interested in?” We literally have something for everyone. From high adventure/recreation with our scuba diving center, train and airplane rides to history with quilt square downtown walking tour and our three museums. We’ve also got agricultural fun with Mayfield Dairy Farms, Sunshine Hollow and MouseCreek Nursery. If it’s entertainment you like, we have incredible shows from the Athens Arts Council which run throughout the year. Whatever your interest is, we’ve got it here and when you visit, we want it to be very memorable, so please allow us to help plan the visit.
