Ben: We follow a clear process by measuring everything, taking notes, and using professional software to price accurately. Our proposals include all the details upfront, so there are no surprises. When there is a big price gap, it is often because the other quote is vague or missing key items. Our price is all-inclusive and only changes if the scope of work does.
MV: What’s your most unique or challenging job—or the most unusual request you’ve received?
Devin: One of our most challenging residential projects was a modern architectural home perched on a steep hillside overlooking the river. Accessing certain areas required us to work with a scaffolding company to build multiple stories of scaffolding just to reach the stunning 5-foot-wide wooden soffits. These soffits were beautifully stained, and we used a specialty finish to restore and preserve them. To maximize the setup, we also partnered with a window cleaning company to address all the hard-to-reach glass while we had access.
As for our most unique and high-profile job, it would have to be painting the Sunsphere in downtown Knoxville. Being trusted to refresh one of the city’s most iconic landmarks was an incredible honor. The project came with its own set of challenges—from estimating the amount of paint needed, to managing the extreme height, and ensuring every step was done safely and precisely. We’re proud of how it turned out, and we even created a full case study available on our website for those interested in the details.
MV: What are some of the most common painting myths that CertaPro can debunk?
Ben: A common myth is that all paint is the same. In reality, the coatings industry is complex, with different products designed for specific surfaces and conditions. We had several quotes to paint our house shutters. CertaPro’s price was in the middle but what they offered for the price was way more than any other company. David, the painter, was professional, courteous, and punctual. He cleaned, primed, and put two coats of paint on each shutter and they look stunning.
