We also wanted to share with you this brief interview with Dr. Pegram that we trust you will find interesting.
ETMV: Dr. Pegram, was there an important role model in your life that inspired you to enter the medical profession?
Dr. Pegram: That person would be my father. My father was born in Pegram, Tennessee, and later attended the University of the South in Sweanee, Tennessee, where he earned his undergraduate degree. Afterwards he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he became involved in helping train the first monkey that went into outer space. I was fortunate, as a youngster, I often helped my father feed the chimps. Today, Dad is retired and living in Nashville.
ETMV: Tell us a little bit about your early years.
Dr. Pegram: I was born in New Mexico and am one of six siblings. Largely due to our father’s emphasis on education, all of us kids went on to earn graduate degrees. However, I was the only one to pursue medicine as a career.
ETMV: Why did you select the specialty fields of Obstetrics & Gynecology?
Dr. Pegram: I’m often asked that question by my patients. In my third year of medical school, I was fortunate enough to experience delivering 50 babies. As a physician, you experience the same joy each parent enjoys on their personal journeys. You become part of one of the greatest celebrations of their lives. If you can help make it even more personal, you’ve given them something special they will remember forever. It’s also the perfect combination of both clinical practice and surgery, having been in the operating room since 1980.
ETMV: Tell our readers a little bit about your family.
Dr. Pegram: I met my wife, Lizzie, while practicing medicine in Fort Pain, Alabama. She was from a nearby small town called Flat Rock. We married and relocated to Decatur, Alabama. We have two boys: Bo (age 13) and Trevor (age 16). Bo enjoys school, especially math and reading, while Trevor loves hunting and fishing. Lizzie and the boys are finishing up school in Decatur, and we are remaining busy selling our home so we can relocate to Sweetwater.
Both Sweetwater Hospital Association and our community are excited that Dr. Pegram chose to relocate his medical practice to East Tennessee. He is accepting new patients at his office in the Sweetwater Hospital Association Professional Office Building, located at 304 Wright Street in Sweetwater.
