In this environment, it helps to have a mortgage professional that can help you navigate those sometimes-dangerous waters. This month, we had the opportunity to interview Michele Albohn at In Good Hands Mortgage Solutions. Michele is a Certified Mortgage Advisor experienced in retirement mortgages, conventional, VA, FHA, second home, construction, HELOC, refinance, and others. In addition, she even lives in Tellico Village!
MV: Tell us a little about yourself and In Good Hands Mortgage Solutions.
Michele: I was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. Family is at the heart of everything I do—I’m blessed with two daughters and a supportive wife, Alissa, whose encouragement always inspires me. A while ago, I worked for a prominent elder-law attorney as head paralegal for the Medicaid department where I helped clients navigate estates, trusts, and wills. I noticed how complex—and at times impersonal—the long-term-care system could be. In 2014, I founded In Good Hands Medicaid Consulting. Since then, I have guided thousands of families through intricate Medicaid plans, asset protection, nursing-home transitions, and home-care coordination.
MV: How did you get started in the mortgage business?
Michele: As with many others, when COVID hit, I had to reevaluate my future. With a strong background in eldercare—spanning Medicaid planning, estate law, and nursing home admissions—I knew my heart was still in serving people through life transitions. I also loved real estate, and becoming a mortgage broker felt like the perfect fit.
MV: What do you like best about what you do?
Michele: The chance to be a trusted partner in some of life’s most meaningful moments. Helping families untangle complex financial and care-planning questions, then watching the weight lift from their shoulders is incredibly rewarding.
I also thrive on problem-solving. No two situations are alike, and I get genuine satisfaction from crafting customized strategies, whether that’s designing a reverse-mortgage solution that lets someone stay in the home they love or helping someone stay in their home with long-term care, without jeopardizing hard-earned assets. Seeing clients relax, confident that we’ve covered every detail, reminds me why I chose this path. Finally, I enjoy the relationships with my clients.
MV: What is your goal in working with clients?
Michele: My primary goal is to give them confidence and peace of mind every step of the way. From our first conversation, I listen to what matters most—whether that’s protecting your hard-earned assets, preserving the lifestyle you love, or making sure you buy your new home while preserving assets.
