Little could husband and wife team, Keith and Suzanne Alleman, have imagined how much different their life would be after just three short years. That what started out as a career choice from Keith, a doctor of pharmacy, would lead to a self-employment opportunity for both of them.
“Keith had been a pharmacist with a big chain corporation since 2001, then accepted a position as a pharmacist for an independent pharmacy in 2007,” said Suzanne. “We then had the opportunity to open our own pharmacy, Livewell Pharmacy, three years later.”
With a flair for interior design and home staging, Suzanne began to express her passion, first in small ways, at the couple’s new store.
“I began by displaying some fun home décor items and small gift items,” said Suzanne.
Encouraged by a very positive customer response and husband, Keith, Suzanne continued to expand her product offerings until their new business endeavor took on a life of its own.
“It came as a complete surprise,” said Suzanne. “What we had hoped would complement our existing business has become a business all its own. I first thought that customers, perhaps waiting for a prescription to be filled, would enjoy browsing through the décor and gift items we had displayed. And because of their enthusiastic response, we continued to add more and more items. Today, what is now called The Treasure Chest Boutique now occupies nearly half of our available retail space.
“I like the name The Treasure Chest Boutique because it describes the wide variety of unique gifts, home décor items and apparel that we offer. The women’s apparel has become so popular that we’ve added a dressing room for the convenience of our shoppers.”
And after hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, The Treasure Chest Boutique, within the Livewell Pharmacy, transforms itself into a “Girl’s Night Out” venue.
“We’ve made the boutique available to gals who want to host parties and events for friends and family,” said Suzanne. “They can theme the event, bring in a manicurist, massage therapist or entertainment and we provide the music, door prizes and refreshments.”
The Treasure Chest Boutique features an eclectic variety of home décor and home accents, handbags, Yellow Box shoes, apparel from Mud Pie, LA Idol and more, and many great gift items. Also check out the newest craze in scrapbooking from Demdaco, which allows you to easily vary your theme with magnetic images.
“We also feature consigners who are displaying art, young girl’s clothing and vintage furniture,” said Suzanne.
