When young Carlos Munoz set out to become a physician in his native Mexico, he was convinced that he was pursuing his life’s passion. After graduating from medical school, and in an attempt to find a hobby or other interest to help him overcome the stress inherent in the field of medicine, he decided to try his hand at cooking.

It was in the pursuit of his new hobby that he discovered his real passion. Carlos decided to attend culinary school and graduated as a Master Chef.

In continuing his journey in the culinary arts, Carlos has recently opened Obravos Grill House in nearby Maryville at 2635 US Highway 411 S, just about a block south of Walmart.

But don’t expect your typical grill house experience. The building, which housed a former restaurant, is tastefully decorated and very stylish, with beautiful wooden tables and an attractive tiled floor.

The Grill House seats about 150 customers in three separate dining areas, all with widescreen televisions, but the sound is muted except in one of the dining rooms, and then only on game day, so you can easily converse with others in your party.

The wait staff is both attentive and polite and the menu varied. The menu includes steaks, seafood, chicken, pastas, and salads. The most expensive item on the menu is $14.99 for a 12oz. Obravos ribeye steak, which includes two sides. Most entrees are in the $8-10 range and include one or two sides.

House salads start at $2.25 and go up to $8.50 for a grilled chicken and shrimp salad. Pastas, including Carlos’ signature fettuccine alfredo, range from $7.99 to $10.99 for Obravos linguini. Chicken specialties range from $8.75 to $9.99 for supreme chicken and Obravos chicken. Seafood entrees includes grilled tilapia, salmon, and shrimp and ranges from $9.25 to $11.99. Obravos also features sirloins, t-bones, and ribeyes for meat lovers, with prices starting at $9.99.

Obravos offers a special kids menu, to-die-for desserts, burgers, combos, and daily specials. They currently offers a variety of bottled and draft beers and hopes to have wine and spirits available in the months ahead.

But here’s where Obravos separates itself from the typical grill house. At Obravos, all food is prepared fresh daily; no frozen hamburger patties. They mix all ingredients by hand and use only spices that they have carefully blended themselves.

Expect the unexpected and the inspired at Obravos Grill House, as Carlos infuses his varied culinary experiences from his travels throughout his native Mexico, North America, and Western Europe.

You’ll be delightfully pleased with Obravos Grill House’s trendy atmosphere, food and drink, and smiling faces. And moms – Obravos received the maximum 100 points on their Department of Health inspection.
