A tour of four festive homes decorated for the holidays
Sunday, November 3, from 1 to 5 p.m.
Four impressive English Tudor-style homes will be featured in the Home Tour at WindRiver, titled “Over the River.” Each unique home will be decorated in a fall, Thanksgiving, or Christmas motif.
The Women’s Club is also hosting a Hospitality Suite at the WindRiver Overlook Manor House, located at the entrance of the WindRiver community. The hours will be 2 to 6 p.m. and includes entertainment, homemade refreshments, and a boutique which features a “Tour of Culinary Delights,” an opportunity to attain a package of dining certificates from 12 local restaurants.
As an added benefit, the club’s 2013 cookbook of soups, salads, and breads, titled “Love with Three Sides,” will be available for purchase at the Hospitality Suite for $10. Cookbooks are now available from any member.
Below are the homes featured in the Home Tour:
Home of Bill & Ann Addison – 506 Windlass Drive
This handsome 8,500-square-foot home sits on a beautiful bluff that offers you a view of the mountains, Lake Tellico, and unforgettable sunsets. Upon entering the home, your eyes are immediately drawn to the elegant great room with an expansive view. The gourmet kitchen has everything a chef could want. The stunning, over-sized walnut butcher block island is complemented by the natural stone that frames the professional grade stove and then carries your eye to the hearth room where the stone is continued on the fireplace. No gourmet kitchen would be complete without a pantry to match… and it does! The main level offers two outside seating areas. There’s one intimate area with a fireplace and a view of the mountains. The second will give you expansive views of Lake Tellico. As you enter the master suite you feel like you’re entering a five-star hotel complete with a morning kitchen and a fabulous round spa tub. Completing the main level is an office finished in Brazilian cherry, making it fit for any executive to work from home.
The upper level offers their guests plenty of privacy. There are three bedrooms complete with en suite baths as well as a private seating area. The lower is designed for entertaining and reflects the homeowners’ love for their Harley Davidsons and the memories the bike rides have created. This entertaining Mecca is adorned with a full-sized bar complete with a margarita machine, pub table and stools, pinball, pool table, and a poker table all finished with the Harley Davidson motif. There is a theater room and one more guest suite in this area. Ann’s favorite area is the outdoor pool and spa with an outdoor kitchen, fireplace, and covered eating area where Bill and Ann entertain friends and family.
Home of Bob & JoAn Toney – 1199 Edgewater Way
Beige stone and stucco, multiple roof lines, cross-mullioned windows, and exterior beams bring us back to an English village. A spiral topiary and large stone fountain give an air of formality off to the right of the stone-paver walkway leading to this home’s dual, wooden front entrance doors. Throughout this 6,200-square-foot home, you’ll find classic elements like stone and wooden floors, Doric columns, and coffered ceilings in the living room. The open floor plan combines the hearth room with its peaked, wooden beamed ceiling, the breakfast room, and the extremely efficient kitchen, which combines three wood finishes into the built-in cupboards, including an unusual feature in the dual armoire, hidden refrigerator/freezer compartments. Leading to the garage takes us through the “drop zone” that houses Bob’s office area, laundry facilities, and mud room combined. Built-ins keep this area neat and tidy. This main level features the usual dining room with its unusual serving bar that also serves as a butler’s pantry. JoAn’s office library, the powder room, and the elegant and restful, spa blue master suite round out the main level. Their stone terrace magically turns into a screened terrace when the screens lower with the push of a button. This leads to a lower level seating area on the lake complete with a fire pit.
The upper level, made for entertaining, combines the bar room with a lounge, game table, and music room facing the lake. There are two complete guest suites as well as a complete home theater with relaxing seating for eight and a snack bar area. Fringed draperies enhance the old theater atmosphere, showing as great an attention to detail as in the rest of this elegant home.
Home of Gary & Nancy Scott – 997 Commodore Drive
As you approach this truly stylish and traditional grey stone home, notice the playful cocker spaniel weathervane atop the garage and the stone garden ornaments offering clues to this couple’s focus! Look for the painted mural in the laundry room in the designated dog area, the exterior door leading to a fenced dog garden! Everything else is time-honored elegance, including the faux finished entry ceiling and powder room, tall beamed ceiling in the great room with ornate built-ins, traditional English furnishings in the dining room, and the partner’s desk in the formal library. The expansive kitchen also combines two wood finishes as the great room does. Above the great room fireplace, note the large painting with revolving Monet scenes, which is really a television that takes nothing away from the formality of the space. The screened porch on this level, complete with fireplace and hidden TV, extends the living space outside with its great views of the lake. Another fireplace graces the master suite of pale blue and cocoa with its comfortable sitting area and large, four-poster bed. The bath houses a spa tub, a long wall of vanity, and double sinks in ornate built-ins. This 6,800-square-foot home has an elevator as one of the “Aging-In-Place” features as well as wide doorways and no interior level changes.
In the lower level, an English Pub atmosphere abounds. There’s a stone fireplace and a bar with kitchen amenities such as a wine cooler, microwave, dishwasher, and sink. There’s a game table and pool table for play. A mirrored workout room and sauna are also on this level along with guest suites. Peek into the media room complete with nine lounge chairs, a popcorn machine, and fridge for uninterrupted movie watching. Or just relax on the walk-out terrace overlooking the lake!
Home of James & Boni Head – 2698 Oakum Court
This home sits on a large, wooded lot that’s bordered by the lake on one side and the golf course on the other. To capture the beautiful views from this home, there are 13 different outside seating areas. Stone and beams were chosen for the exterior finish to highlight the architectural details of its design. Upon entering this three-story, 7,600-square-foot home, you’ll find beautiful wood details from the crown moldings to the hardwood flooring throughout. There are six fireplaces that add to the coziness of this home. Eclectic describes the creative style that best shows the combined taste of both James and Boni. The main level consists of an open floor plan for the living room, kitchen, breakfast, and dining rooms. There is a screened porch and large deck offering a view of the lake. There are three fireplaces on this floor, and Boni’s favorite is the one shared by the master bedroom and bath.
The upper level offers two guest suites, an exercise room, the balcony library/sitting area, and the office, which boasts views of the water and golf course. As you enter the lower level you’ll find more beautiful woodwork and a space filled with rustic sophistication. The bar was designed around a jukebox that’s filled with old 45’s. This room will definitely let you know that you’re living in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. The open concept is continued on this level, allowing views from the bar, pool table, and card table. Another guest suite and plenty of storage complete this lower level.
