The 2019 Christmas season commences at First Baptist Church of Tellico Village on Sunday, December 1, with the annual Hanging of the Green at both the 8:50 and 10:15 morning worship services. According to Pastor Charlie Barnard, “This has been our tradition for 14 years of our 22 years of existence as a church.” Throughout the service, Pastor Barnard explains the significance of each of the traditional decorations of Christmas as they are placed in the sanctuary while carols are sung by the congregation.
This year’s Christmas celebrations, which continue throughout the month, will abound with music. On Monday evening, December 2, Minister of Music Emeritus, Eugene Hattaway, presents a “Carol Sing” featuring The WhiteStone Singers.
“For more than 20 years, the WhiteStone Singers have been providing music in the community for Christmas, July 4, and other special occasions,” said Hattaway. “The chorus is made up of 16 singers from area churches and community choruses.”
The choral group will be accompanied by the First Baptist Church of Tellico Village Orchestra, along with members from Knoxville Symphony. The concert begins at 7 pm in the sanctuary and is open to the community free of charge.
Friday, December the 13, is the annual Christmas Tree Lighting at the Village Square at 6 pm.
“The Community Tree Lighting is part of our gift back to the community,” said Pastor Barnard. “We have had a Community Christmas Service for the past 14 years, and we always invite the churches of our community to join us in the celebration. This year the HOA joins us to make it an even larger Community Tree Lighting. Santa and one of his elves will make a special appearance, and the Tellico Singers will lead us in the singing of Christmas Carols.”
All residents of the village are invited to the merriment of this special Christmas gathering.
The following Sunday and Monday, December 15 and 16, the FBCTV Sanctuary Choir and Orchestra present “The Joy of Christmas” at 7 pm in the church sanctuary.
“We are excited each Christmas for the opportunity to share the good news of Jesus Christ with our community through music,” said David Whipple, Minister of Music. “This program is comprised of a variety of Christmas choral pieces presented in a variety of styles. We are honored to include several exceptional musicians, including members of the Knoxville Symphony, who will be joining our own excellent orchestra to accompany our choir in this presentation. Also, the talented Sauni Rinehart will provide narration for the program. I am confident that those who attend will leave with joy in their hearts as we celebrate anew the birth of Jesus.”
Again, this is a free concert that is open to all.
The most significant night of the season, of course, is Christmas Eve. The church honors the holiness of the season with a traditional Candlelight Service at 5 pm.
Please join us at First Baptist Church of Tellico Village as we join together to celebrate the wondrous birth of Christ our Lord.
